Web Conferencing – A Smart Business Tool For Companies of All Kinds »

Interactive Web Conference and How it Can Help Your Business

The web conference and video conference is being used in businesses today more and more. The reason it is becoming so popular is blatantly obvious. With web conferences, businesses are becoming increasingly successful with their new ability to have meetings online. The new technology allows business to connect employees to each other with both audio as well as video making it almost identical to an actual meeting in the office. This allows business to apply the extra money towards areas where profits and expansion can be made.

Web conference software basically just hooks up two or more computers allowing individuals to connect from various locations around the globe. The concept is somewhat similar to that of closed circuit television, the difference being the fact that web conferencing utilizes the internet for the connection process. With the connection, video and audio streaming private. the third party web conference companies usually store the data on a secure server with a guarantee of privacy.

You may be asking now, where and how do I get set up with web Conferencing tools? There are many companies out on the market today that specialize in setting up small and large business with this technology. You can open the phone book and there will be plenty of companies that would be happy and willing to set you up. But do you really need a company to set up your web conferencing needs, or can’t I just use an instant video messaging free software? If you care about privacy at all you really should not.

You may not think that web conferencing differs from instant messaging in many ways. But you have to take into account a few things. Instant messaging services not only seem to crash at all the wrong times, but they are not as private and you do not have the ability to call customer support and get the problem resolved immediately, like you do with a web conferencing service. Having your meeting through an instant messenger will not exactly leave your business with the professional look you are trying for. It is just easier, more private, and definitely more professional looking to run your meeting through a professional web conference service.

A professional service will handle the complete setup and breakdown of a web conference project. It will also provide the much needed IT support that will be required in the case of any technical difficulties. (Some web conference services offer a second video channel that can be switched to in case of a problem) This is certainly more reliable than an instant messaging web cam chat. Additionally, the audio-video quality of a web conferencing system will be exponentially better than non-professional services which is another reason why it is advisable to use one. So, if you want to impress people with the operations of your business, stick with professional web conferencing. I’ve tried GoToMeeting software when I collaborate with my colleagues online aand it’s basically better than any other web conferencing software. It’s EXTREMELY easy to install and to use. I suggest that you try it, you and your team will love it.

    Hey John,

I’m looking for a web conferencing application mainly for the purpose of collaborating with other team members too. Can you offer any additional details on why GoToMeeting is useful for team collaboration?

I watched the how to video on this site and saw all the features, so I’m assuming the screen share function would be one of the primary tools you use when doing this. What if someone other than the presenter wants to share files with the group, can this be done?

I think you would need the ability to do that, since the whole purpose of team collaboration is so team members can show what they’ve done for the project.

    Thanks

Yes Stan, you’re correct, the screen share function is a huge help with team collaboration, but it’s also the main feature for web conferencing as well. Without the ability for screen share, web conferencing software would be nothing more than glorified telphone conferencing software.

With the screen share, you can give other meeting members the ability to control your mouse or keybord, so they can make changes to the files open on your computer. The person who scheduled the meeting can also pass screen share to someone else in the meeting so they can share their desktop with the meeting attendees. This means everyone in the meeting can share files with everyone else in the meeting.

If you have a project where everyone is working on a smaller chunk of the big project, then you can just pass screen share to everyone and let them show what progress they’ve made.

I use these tools on a daily basis. They easy to use and extremely valuable when it comes to collaborating online with other team members.

I’ve been using GoToMeeting for online collaboration for a while too. I’ve found it to be just right for what I need to do. I started out using a couple free tools, but they just weren’t reliable and usually didn’t have all the features I needed.

I’m a freelance developer and this helps me to connect with my clients and also give demonstrations to people I’m trying to get as a new client. The cost I pay each month for this service is definitely worth it, because it allows me to get a lot of new clients that I would have never been able to get because they’re in different locations and it also keeps me from having to travel just to show someone the details of their project.
